First steps to grid method for multiplication

Today in maths with Miss Kettle and Mrs Buettner’s sets, we made initial learning of the grid method for multiplication a practical lesson. Children made grids using tape on the floor in the hall. They then threw dice to create two-digit by 1-digit number calculations. After that, they calculated the answers and made them with dienes before adding them up and coming up with their answers. Pupils will consolidate and apply this learning formally into their books in our next lesson. Perhaps you could get your child to show you their new learning at home? Alternatively, you are invited to see our learning in action at school next Wednesday (19th) at 9am at the maths workshop. Everyone welcome😃

Have a fantastic weekend! Miss Kettle🌸
